I am pleased, excited, elated and happy to let you know that Wendy gave birth on December 27, 2009 at 10:02pm to a perfect, beautiful little boy. He was 5 days early, weighed 8lbs 10oz and was 19.5 inches long. We named him Dylan Leonard.
Both Wendy and the baby are doing wonderful. My family has been in town for a couple of days visiting and sharing this most special time with us. I am still awed every time I hold him what a little miracle he is.
Last night we rang in the new year with our little boy, our first New Years Eve as a family. I'm overwhelmed with emotion just thinking about it. Tonight we're all sitting around my living room enjoying family. We're just so thankful.
Happy New Year!

There is no way I can convey the depths of the emotion I felt when you told us "Finally we are a family." Considering the myriad of emotions and situations you have and are currently enduring we are so happy and grateful for "little Dylan." Always M & D
CONGRATULATIONS!! He's beautiful! Looks a lot like you. So happy for you and your wife. I know you will, but cherish every moment with Dylan...they go by SO fast. My first just turned 7 years old on Dec. 29th!

Matt & Wendy,
Congratulations to the two of you! I am so happy and excited. It is hard to believe that it has been a little more than a year since we ran into each other in the waiting room at Stanford! As the saying goes, "What a difference a year makes"..
Beth (another CMLer, but one who is now on a different journey than most...)
It was certainly interesting for me to read this article. Thank you for it. I like such themes and anything connected to this matter. BTW, try to add some photos :).
Congratulations. I`m really happy for you.
My husband also has CML and has been on Gleevec for a year and 4 months and he is doing fine.
When he was diagnosed we were about to try to have our second child. Then the doctors told us not to think about it anymore because Gleevec could harmfully affect a baby. Sadly we follow their advice. A year after diagnosis the doctors give us hope and said that there was no evidence that Gleevec could have some kind of negative effects on a fetus and said it was up to us to take that decision.
We don`t know what to do. We are so scared.
Would you please give us some kind of advice.

Dear Matt,
I just read your blog from the beginning until now. Congratulations on your baby, what a wonderful gift. I was diagnosed with CML, chronic phase, this past Monday and had the bone marrow aspiration on Wednesday. The blood work confirmed that I am PH+ and I'll probably be starting Gleevac pretty soon. I am an American working in Brasilia, Brazil for the UN and really wish I were in the States right now with more family support. I'm married and we have two beautiful little boys aged 2 and 4. They are a burst of energy, so the fatigue that you experienced on Gleevac scares me. I'm happy to hear that you are doing better now. Best of luck with the new baby and congratulations again,
Janine
